Our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Music curriculum at Lees Brook Academy inspires pupils to become confident, creative and reflective musicians. Through performing, composing, listening and appraising, pupils develop secure musical knowledge, practical skills and an appreciation of music from a broad range of genres, cultures, traditions and historical periods.
At KS3, pupils build strong foundations in rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, ensemble performance and music technology, while learning to use musical vocabulary and evaluate their own and others’ work.
At KS4, they apply and refine these skills with increasing independence, accuracy and sophistication through performance, composition and the study of set works and wider musical contexts. An inclusive approach, regular feedback and purposeful rehearsal enable all pupils to make progress, develop resilience and achieve high standards. The curriculum prepares pupils for further study and careers within the creative industries, while fostering enjoyment, self-expression and lifelong engagement with music.

These experiences allow students to showcase their performances and compositional skills to the wider community, which further encourages students’ perseverance as up and coming musicians. Students are welcome to attend the clubs which are run in the department including: Choir, Music club, and KS4 Music clinic, band/solo practice in the practice rooms during lunch times and after school.
Our bustling department gives every student a place and a voice to connect and develop, and it is here students can deepen their artistry and continue to thrive, where they may complete courses such as our in-house Arts Award qualification in the Performing Arts sector. These skills nurtured and developed in the music department support student aspirations within the wider curriculum and beyond Lees Brook into their future.
