EL3 Hair and Beauty
The intent of this course is to provide you with the opportunity to sample the hair and beauty vocational area. You will develop some basic vocational skills in shampooing, conditioning and styling hair and providing basic hand care, skin care and nail art. Alongside you will develop wider employability skills in communication, working as part of a team and becoming an adult in a diverse society. These will enable you to start or build a career within the hair and beauty industries.
You will also be able to develop the essential communication, information technology, English and maths skills required to succeed and progress within the industry.
This qualifications has been designed to allow you to achieve the size and level of qualification most suitable for your needs and relevant stage of learning, providing an opportunity to work towards the qualification in small steps.
Hairdressing
Intent L2 VTCT Hairdressing
The intent is that you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology. You will gain the knowledge of all relevant testing, health, safety and legislation requirements. You will have the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, provide a range of basic cutting, styling, colouring and lightening services and have the required skills to use electrical equipment to style hair. Alongside you will develop their communication and customer service skills, awareness of environmental sustainability, commercial skills, problem solving and research skills.
You will become qualified as a junior hairdresser/hairstylist.
On completion, you can progress into employment or may choose to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist qualification at Level 3.
Level 3 VTCT Hairdressing
The main intent is to prepare you for employment. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. You will gain the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, provide a range of cutting and colouring services, and set, dress and finish the hair.
Alongside these you will develop your communication and customer service skills, your awareness of environmental sustainability, commercial skills and will develop problem solving and research skills.
You will gain the required skills to meet the national occupational standards for hairdressing and will become qualified to work effectively as a senior hairdresser/stylist.
On completion you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist qualification at Level 4 in one or more of the following areas: salon management, hair colour correction, specialist hair and scalp services, advanced hair styling.
