Transition Tasks

Hello Year 6,
I am Mr Dunn and I am leading the transition for you from Year 6 to Year 7, and the change of school from your primary school to Lees Brook Community School. I am aware that some of you may be nervous and that you and your parents may have a lot of questions. I am looking forward to the transition days which will be on Tuesday 6 July, Wednesday 7 July and Thursday 8 July, where you will be able to visit the school and meet your new form tutor. Letters about these days will be sent to you very soon. In the meantime I would like to offer you a chance to try some learning tasks that will help you to get to know the school.

Transition Task 1

Please watch the virtual tour of the school so that you can get to know where the different parts of the school are and the facilities you will be using in September.  (Top link under 'Prospective Parents' tab)

Transition Task 2

I would like you to get creative! As you have probably seen by now, our school motto is "Lead, Believe, Create, Succeed" and we embrace these ideas in everything we do. For your transition task this week I want you to create something that shows me what you understand by the four words in our motto. This could be a piece of artwork, a poem, a newspaper article that you have written... The possibilities are endless! You might choose to focus on one of the words, or you might want to take on more than one. I am really looking forward to seeing what you come up with this week - so do email me a picture of what you have created if you are able to This email address is being protected from spambots. Transition Task 3

Across the top of the website, you will see 11 different tabs. The third one across says “Curriculum”. Click on that and a drop-down menu will appear. The top option on the list says “Subjects”. Click on that and another list will appear, which has all the different subjects you will study at Lees Brook. Clicking on any of these will take you to that subject’s page where you can find out more about what you will be learning in that subject during Year 7.

See if you can find out:

What students learn in the Autumn term of Year 7 in English, maths and science.
What students learn in the Autumn term of Year 7 in 2 other subjects of your choice.
If you already know anything about some of the topics from primary school.

Extras

Some of you have been asking about what sort of food is available from the school canteen and what sort of books are on offer through the library at Lees Brook. The answer to both questions is LOTS – but if you’d like some specific examples of what has been on offer this year, follow the links below:
