Hello Year 6! It seems very strange to have to contact you in this way whilst the country is on lockdown. Hopefully we will all be able to get back to normal as soon as possible. I met lots of you at the open evening or during a separate school visit earlier this year, but for anyone I haven’t met yet let me introduce myself. I am Mr Moore and I will be your Head of Year when you come to Lees Brook. I am really looking forward to greeting you all in person and welcoming you to the school properly.

I’m sure that you and your parents have got lots of questions about what will happen to help you get ready to come to Lees Brook. This section of the website has been created especially to help us do that by keeping in touch with you are regularly as possible. This will allow me to give you some activities to do to prepare you for life at Lees Brook so that, hopefully, you will have answers to the questions you may already have – and even have answers to questions you haven’t thought of yet!

Keep checking this page regularly so that you can stay up to date with all the information coming out just for our new learners and their families. I will try and put something new to do on this page each week so that there isn't too much to think about all in one go! I look forward to seeing everyone soon, but for now stay safe.

Moore Chris
Best wishes,

Chris Moore
Head of Year 7 (as of September 2020)

Update on School Uniform

Many parents are contacting the school to confirm tie colour for your child entering Year 7. This year, new Year 7 students will need a black and silver tie. We believe this is 'black and white' by the uniform supplier. Morleys has advice and guidance relating to uniform on their website: https://www.schoolwearsolutions.com/our-schools/lees-brook-community-school/

Task 1

At the moment, your primary school teachers are working hard passing on any information about you that they think we need to know at Lees Brook. Before you start secondary school, it would be nice if your new form tutor knew a bit about you - what you're looking forward to about coming to Lees Brook, anything you're nervous about and anything else you think they should know about you. The activity below will give you the chance to tell them. You can do the activity and email it to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will pass it on to your new form tutor to read.

Letter to my Form Tutor

Task 2

This week, I would like you to get creative! As you have probably seen by now, our school motto is "Lead, Believe, Create, Succeed" and we embrace these ideas in everything we do. For your transition task this week I want you to create something that shows me what you understand by the four words in our motto. This could be a piece of artwork, a poem, a newspaper article that you have written... The possibilities are endless! You might choose to focus on one of the words, or you might want to take on more than one. I am really looking forward to seeing what you come up with this week - so do email me a picture of what you make if you are able to.

Task 3

From reading your letters to your new form tutor, a lot of you have said you would like to know more about the different subjects you will study in Year 7. So, this week, I have decided to CREATE an activity that will LEAD you to find out (if you’ve already done last week’s task, you’ll know why those two words stand out).
Across the top of the website, you will see 11 different tabs. The third one across says “Curriculum”. Click on that and a drop-down menu will appear. The top option on the list says “Subjects”. Click on that and another list will appear, which has all the different subjects you will study at Lees Brook. Clicking on any of these will take you to that subject’s page where you can find out more about what you will be learning in that subject during Year 7.

See if you can find out:
• What you will do in the Autumn term of Year 7 in English, maths and science
• What you will do in the Autumn term of Year 7 in 2 other subjects of your choice
• If you already know anything about some of the topics from primary school.

Some of you have been asking about what sort of food is available from the school canteen and what sort of clubs are on offer at Lees Brook. The answer to both questions is LOTS – but if you’d like to find out more, follow the links below:

Task 4

Welcome back Year 6! I hope you had a nice half term holiday. By now, some of you might be back at primary school but I know not everyone will be - so you might be doing this week's task in school or at home. This week, I thought it would be nice for you to get to know some of the other staff in school. As a big school, we have a lot more staff than you are probably used to - so it would be good to start to know who's who.

At the top of our website there is a tab that says "About Us". Go on that to open a drop-down menu and click on "Key Staff". See if you can find the answers to the questions below on that webpage:

What is the name of the Headteacher?

How many Deputy Headteachers are there and what are their names?

What is the name of the Assistant Headteacher in charge of safeguarding?

Mrs Gregory is one of the Learning Directors - but what subject is she the Learning Director of?

Mr Thomas is another one of the Learning Directors - but what subject is he the Learning Director of?

Who is the Learning Director of PE?

You don't need to email me anything - this is just to help you get to know us a little bit better. Have a good week!

Task 5

This week's task comes to us from our mathematics faculty. To make sure your skills are sharp ready for secondary school maths lessons, take a look at the activities on the following website: https://www.numerise.com/secondary-ready/#sign-up

Task 6

This week's task is to have a look through the presentation below. It includes a lot of information that would normally be talked through during induction evenings - but I wanted to make sure you all had access to this as soon as possible. There is information in the presentation for students and parents - so it would be best to have a look through it together.

Induction Powerpoint

Task 7

By now, you should have received a letter which includes details of who your form tutor at Lees Brook will be. Tutors have written a page each so you can get to know them a little bit before the start of Year 7 - and be able to recognise them when you come to Lees Brook. We hope you enjoy learning a bit more about your new form tutor!
