Big Bang Finals

Our plucky Year 9 Students made their way to Birmingham NEC on the 14th March for the Big Bang Competition national finals. After winning an award last year at the East Midlands event hosted at the Roundhouse College in Derby it was time to head for the big leagues! To remind you, their idea was to assist visually impaired rail passengers locate the doors and handles to board and disembark trains using their smartphones to guide them. Over two full days they set up stall in the vast lobby of the NEC alongside Schools from all over the country to showcase the idea to judges and all interested parties.

Many competed in a variety of STEM categories with some fantastic ideas and a wide array of impressive scientific and technological displays on show. With so much to be blown away by, we are immensely proud that in the awards ceremony which closed the competition, our students finished runners up in their category of Junior Engineering 2019. What a brilliant achievement! Staff from other Schools and the Judges themselves were very complimentary about our student’s idea and how they had gone about trying to implement it. Congratulations to these students and to Mr Ingram who did a good deal of the hard work in their own time.
