What will I learn on the course?
The following core units must be taken:
The Body in Sport
Health, Safety and Injury in Sport
Four of the following specialist units must be taken:
Preparation for Sport
Planning and Leading Sports Activities
Practical Sport or
Practical Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
Work based project in Sport
How will I be assessed?
You are required to create a portfolio of evidence which shows that you meet the standards associated with each unit. You are also required to complete a number of assignments. The qualification is graded a Pass, Merit or Distinction. The evidence you produce is assessed by your Tutor and then externally verified by the examining board.
What qualification will I achieve if I successfully complete the course?
If you choose the Practical Sport unit from the list of specialist units above, the name of the qualification you will achieve if you successfully complete the course is:
EDEXCEL First Diploma in Sport (Exercise and Fitness)
If you choose the Practical Outdoor and Adventurous Activities unit from the list of specialist units above, the name of the qualification you will achieve if you successfully complete the course is:
EDEXCEL First Diploma in Sport (Outdoor Education)
Both these qualifications are equivalent to 4 GCSEs graded A* to C.
Will I be able to gain any other additional qualifications?
If you have not already gained a higher grade pass (grade A* to C) in English and Mathematics you will undertake Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy which are equivalent to higher grade passes.
What will I be able to do after the course finishes?
If you achieve an overall pass grade or better in this qualification, it is possible for you to progress to a higher level qualification such as the Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Sciences or the Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Sport (Outdoor Education), or to take additional studies at Level 2, such as an NVQ.
