What will I learn on the course?
You will cover the following units:
Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
Advise and consult with clients
Style, dress and finish hair using basic techniques
Change hair colour using basic techniques
Cut hair using basic techniques
Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
You will also study two of the following:
Promote additional products or services to customers
Fulfil salon reception duties
Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
Style hair using basic plaiting techniques and added hair
Perm and neutralise hair using basic techniques
Perm, relax and neutralise hair
Perm, relax and neutralise African Caribbean hair
Provide scalp massage services
How will I be assessed?
You will be continually assessed throughout the course by a variety of different methods including practical observations, oral questions, written tests, assignments, personal appearance and a portfolio of evidence.
What qualification will I achieve if I successfully complete the course?
The name of the qualification you will achieve if you successfully complete the course is:
NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing accredited by City and Guilds
Will I be able to gain any other additional qualifications?
If you have not already gained a higher grade pass (grade A* to C) in English and Mathematics you will undertake Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy which are equivalent to higher grade passes.
What will I be able to do after the course finishes?
Students who achieve the NVQ Level 2 qualification can progress on to an NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing course. The minimum qualification you need for a career in Hairdressing is Level 2.
