Why should I take this course?

If you are thinking about a career in Beauty Therapy this course will give you a wide range of skills in preparation for employment or entry on to a Level 3 beauty course. The course combines both the theory and practical aspect of working within a salon. It offers an opportunity to study and train in a realistic working environment.

What do I need to join the course?

You must be 16 years of age at the start of the course and have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in beauty therapy.

You must have:

Gained a Level 1 Beauty Therapy qualification or

Four GCSEs at grades D to F including a grade D in English or Level 1 Certificate in Adult Literacy

You will need to attend an interview to judge your suitability for enrolment on the course.

As Beauty Therapy is a service industry it is important that you have a pleasant personality, smart appearance, good personal hygiene and present yourself well. You must want to work with the general public, be committed and have good attendance and time-keeping.

What will I learn on the course?

On the course you will learn through a combination of theory and practical lessons. You will cover the following units:

Health and Safety
Reception skills
Maintain personal effectiveness at work and promote additional products and services.
Waxing
Eye Treatments
Facials
Manicures
Pedicures

Students must be able to work effectively with others and be willing to carry out and receive all treatments, including manicures, facials, waxing, eye treatments and pedicures.

How will I be assessed?

You will be continually assessed throughout the course by a variety of different methods including practical observations, oral questions, written tests, assignments, personal appearance and a portfolio of evidence.

What qualiﬁcation will I achieve if I successfully complete the course?

The name of the qualification you will achieve if you successfully complete the course is:

NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy accredited by the Vocational Training and Charitable Trust (VTCT)

Will I be able to gain any other additional qualiﬁcations?

If you have not already gained a higher grade pass (grade A* to C) in English and Mathematics you will undertake Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy which are equivalent to higher grade passes.

What will I be able to do after the course ﬁnishes?

Students who achieve the NVQ Level 2 qualification can progress on to an NVQ Beauty Therapy Level 3 course, gain employment in the beauty therapy industry or complete further specialist courses.
