GENERAL DRESS CODE
An important part of being a Skills Academy student is wearing clothing and footwear that conforms to the dress code. You must also obey the rules about hairstyles and jewellery. Students not in correct dress code may be withdrawn from lessons.
Clothes worn for college should be suitable for working in - clean, practical, and sensible, and students should look smart and tidy. Clothing that is provocative in any way is not suitable and should not be worn. Please note the following conditions regarding dress code:
- No extreme styles or fashions are allowed especially no shorts or caps
- Reasonable jewellery and make up is allowed as long as health and safety conditions are met
- Several of our courses will have additional requirements regarding jewellery and these must also be adhered to
- Extreme piercings on any parts of the body and visible tattoos are not allowed
- Jeans are allowed as long as they are sensible and smart in appearance -jeans with holes or patches are not allowed
- Cropped trousers are allowed in the summer term
- ‘Hoodies’ are allowed as long as students keep their hoods down while inside buildings and outside in the college grounds except when weather conditions are poor, for example when it is raining
- Students should not wear tops that reveal midriffs or underwear or are cut too low
- Students should not wear trousers that reveal their underwear
- Hair should not be cut too short or with tramlines or patterns (Grade 2 and above is permissible)
- Dyed hair should not be extreme or multi-coloured. Hairdressing students may be asked or required to have colour flashes to fulfill assessment criteria during their course
- Outdoor coats must be removed during lessons and in the Bistro area.
On occasions we may ask you to dress in a more formal manner, for example at open evenings, educational visits or presentations.
Please note:
On certain courses you will also be expected to wear specialist clothing, for example, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Hospitality and Catering, Construction and Health and Social Care.
