The World Triathlon Championships 2010

Mr Cherry, our Learning Mentor, competed in the World Championships for Triathlon on Saturday 11th September 2010. He was one of a group of
twelve British men who were selected to represent Great Britain at the championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Mr Cherry qualified at a Triathlon event in Milton Keynes earlier in the year by finishing in the top 4.  There were three qualifying events held around Great Britain.

Training has been a very important part of Mr Cherry’s success.  He swims between five and six hours a week with Long Eaton Swimming Club.  Cycling to and from school was a regular method of training for Mr Cherry as was regular runs.

60 competitors from across the world entered the 25-29 age group race. It was scheduled to start at 7.15am on the Saturday!  Mr Cherry had to get up that morning at 4.30am to prepare himself for the race.

Triathlon involves three disciplines; swimming, cycling and running.  Each discipline has a different distance.

Mr Cherry completed the event in a time of;

1 hour 4 minutes 6 seconds

He came 11th out of the 60 competitors in his age group and was the 3rd Britain home.

In total 600 men competed in the various age groups- Mr Cherry came 52nd overall.

This is a fantastic achievement

We would like to congratulate Mr Cherry!
